Get to Know Dr. Pooja Mally!

Recently joining OPAL Aesthetics is Dr. Pooja Mally, a board-certified ophthalmologist who is fellowship trained in Oculoplastic & Orbital Surgery and Neuro-Ophthalmology. Get to know Dr. Mally below!
What inspired you to choose your specialty?
I had a friend in college that was pre-med. I didn’t know much about optometry and he convinced me to look into the field. After graduating from college, I worked for an optometrist for a year to make sure this was a good career to pursue. Sight is so important and this career allows me to help preserve such a precious thing for our patients.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
The most challenging aspect of my job is delivering devastating news to patients, particularly when they have permanent vision loss. It never gets easier from my perspective, but I’ve found that patients appreciate these discussions to be handled respectfully, honestly and with sensitivity.
What do you like to do outside of work for fun?
When I’m not working, I’m usually spending time with my children and husband. We love traveling together as a family. I am also trained in Classical Indian dance and continue to practice. In my downtime, I like to relax with a fiction novel and tea.
