Why the EVO ICL Heightens Experiences and Enriches Your Life
Posted by: Georgia Eye Partners in Patient Education
Have you been looking for an alternative to glasses and contact lenses? Have you considered undergoing a vision correction procedure like LASIK but don’t want to commit to something permanent?
If you love the idea of correcting your vision without commitment, you may want to consider a procedure like the EVO ICL. The EVO ICL is both reversible and removable.
It’s the only vision correction procedure with these options given to patients, making it highly desirable. Thanks to EVO ICL, you can achieve the vision of your dreams and improve your life.
Keep reading to learn more about the EVO ICL, how it works, and why the EVO ICL heightens experiences and enriches your life!
What is the EVO ICL?
The EVO ICL is a lens implant placed inside the eye. ICL stands for Implantable Collamer Lens. Unlike other procedures like LASIK, which removes tissue from the cornea to reshape the eye and correct refractive errors, the EVO ICL is an additive lens.
Because it’s an additive lens, it does not remove tissue from the eye. It also does not remove the natural lens from the eye, which is the case with cataract surgery.
Instead, the EVO ICL is a minimally invasive procedure that creates a small incision in the eye. After making the incision, the EVO ICL is folded up and inserted through the incision.
The ICL sits between the iris and natural lens before unfolding. Your surgeon at Georgia Eye Partners will then position the EVO ICL as necessary to give you the best vision possible.
No stitches or sutures are necessary, as the incision heals on its own.
How Does the EVO ICL Work?
EVO is short for evolution because EVO ICL is the next step in the evolution of vision correction! EVO ICL is a minimally invasive procedure and allows patients to recover quickly. Most patients start noticing visual improvements almost instantly.
Much like a contact lens, the EVO ICL helps you see by changing how light refracts before it passes through your eye. But the implant is made to sit inside your eye, where it can remain permanently.
The implant is made from a material called collamer. Collamer is derived from collagen, a protein your body naturally produces.
Because of this, your eye recognizes the EVO ICL as a part of your body rather than a foreign object. This makes the EVO ICL very comfortable as it’s biocompatible with your eye.
EVO ICL is in natural harmony with your eye, making it an excellent choice for patients with dry eyes, and may not be a good candidate for other procedures like LASIK.
What Sets the EVO ICL Apart?
Unlike contact lenses requiring maintenance and periodic removal, the EVO ICL never needs to be removed. However, the EVO ICL differs and is set apart from other procedures because you can have it removed if you choose to.
Part of what sets the EVO ICL apart from other procedures is that it’s both removable and reversible. Laser vision correction procedures like LASIK are permanent because they reshape the cornea to correct refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
However, the EVO ICL is not a laser vision correction procedure. It is an additive lens implant. Although the EVO ICL is meant to be permanent, you can remove it during a simple procedure with your surgeon at Georgia Eye Partners.
You can also reverse it if you choose to have it replaced with an intraocular lens later in life. If you need cataract surgery or want to undergo refractive lens exchange, you may consider this an option.
You can remove the EVO ICL at the time of cataract surgery to ensure you can see clearly after the procedure. The EVO ICL provides patients with peace of mind and options for better vision if necessary due to cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange.
If you remove the EVO ICL, your vision will revert to how it was before you had the additive lens implanted in your eye.
Having the EVO ICL put in your eye is easy. However, it’s also a procedure that can do a lot to change your life for the better. Here are some ways the EVO ICL heightens experiences and enriches your life:
Improves Your Vision
If you want better vision while achieving visual freedom from glasses and contact lenses, the EVO ICL is an excellent choice. Crisper, sharper vision could be yours that’s significantly better than you could achieve with glasses and contact lenses.
Because you’ll no longer have to look through an artificial lens like with contacts or glasses to see, you can look forward to seamless vision. It should also come as no surprise that most patients who choose the EVO ICL end up with 20/20 vision or better.
EVO ICL can correct both nearsightedness and astigmatism. Another thing that makes it so remarkable is its ability to correct up to -23.0 diopters of nearsightedness.
That’s twice as much nearsightedness as what LASIK can correct. If you’re a patient with severe nearsightedness, the EVO ICL may be the best vision correction procedure for you.
Helps You Achieve Visual Freedom
Few things in life are more freeing than no longer needing to depend on glasses and contact lenses. The EVO ICL provides you with visual freedom while also improving your vision.
After correcting your vision with the EVO ICL, you’ll no longer need to deal with contact lenses or spend time looking for your glasses. Everyday annoyances like wiping smudges off your glasses or waiting for foggy lenses to clear up will be a thing of the past.
Instead, you can get your time back to do what you want. When you spend less time and energy making sure you can see, you’ll have more time to do what you love. Whether that’s sleeping in for a few extra minutes every morning, spending more time with your family, or getting your look perfect before going to work, you can rush less and enjoy yourself more.
Life is short, and having more time to do what you want makes the EVO ICL worth it!
Reduces Chances of Dry Eye
Because of the EVO ICL’s biocompatibility with the eye, it causes much less discomfort than if you were wearing contact lenses. Contact lenses dry out your eyes because you wear them on the cornea.
Contact lenses can partially block oxygen from entering the eye, leading to symptoms like dryness and irritation. Even if you use sufficient contact lens solution, you may still experience dryness while wearing contacts.
But you never need to remove or replace the EVO ICL; it also won’t disturb the natural harmony of your eye. After healing from the EVO ICL, you won’t be able to feel it in your eye.
It’s virtually invisible, and nobody needs to know it’s there except for you. EVO ICL is also minimally invasive.
It’s less invasive than LASIK and doesn’t require creating a flap in the cornea to correct your vision. Many times, if you’re not a good LASIK candidate due to thin corneas, you may find out you’re a better fit for the EVO ICL instead.
You may also have fewer post-surgical side effects, including dry eyes. If more corneal tissue is disturbed during a procedure like LASIK, this increases the risk of dry eye and other side effects. However, because the EVO ICL disturbs no corneal tissue, there are fewer risks of side effects, including dry eyes.
Gives You Peace of Mind
EVO ICL is the only reversible vision correction procedure. You can have the EVO ICL removed at any time with a procedure similar to the one used to implant it.
Other vision correction procedures like LASIK permanently change the shape of the eye. While outcomes are good for most vision correction procedures, many people find the idea of permanently changing their vision to be daunting.
But since you can remove the EVO ICL, you can have peace of mind knowing you aren’t permanently changing your body or vision if you don’t want to. The EVO ICL never needs to be removed, and most patients have no reason to have it removed.
It can safely stay inside your eye indefinitely. But knowing it can be removed helps many patients emotionally, making the EVO ICL even more appealing!
Improves Your Self Confidence
When you can see without depending on visual aids, you can be more confident in yourself and your abilities. You won’t ever have to stumble around in the dark looking for your glasses or a lost contact.
You’ll no longer feel like you’re being held back by irritation due to contact lenses. You’ll also be able to reveal the face behind your glasses for the whole world to see!
You may be surprised how confident you feel when you can see on your own and no longer have to depend on glasses or contact lenses. But it really can!
You’ll be able to do more and be more spontaneous and present for your coworkers, friends, family, and loved ones.
Makes You Safer
You’ll be more ready for anything when you don’t have to rely on glasses or contact lenses. That includes fun things like last-minute trips, but it also includes emergencies.
When you have to get up in the middle of the night to respond to a concerning phone call or an alarm going off, you won’t have to waste time finding your glasses or grabbing contact lenses. You’ll be ready to go immediately to keep you and your family safe.
With all the ways EVO ICL can improve your life, it’s worth considering. Are you ready to take the next step in your vision correction journey?
